Pope Greyhounds Varsity defeated South Cobb 12-0 on Tuesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Jon Strydom struck out Espinal to finish off the game.
Pope Greyhounds Varsity got things started in the first inning. James Tibbs grounded out, scoring one run.
Pope Greyhounds Varsity tallied eight hits. Quinn Kerce and Heflin all managed multiple hits for Pope Greyhounds Varsity. Heflin and Kerce each collected two hits to lead Pope Greyhounds Varsity.
Pope Greyhounds Varsity tallied five runs in the sixth inning. Pope Greyhounds Varsity’s big bats in the inning were led by walks by Tibbs, Miguel Fernandez, and Nick Jones, a single by Zach Wright, and a sac fly by Cade Heflin.
Jack Butler pitched Pope Greyhounds Varsity to victory. The pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits, striking out six and walking zero. Strydom threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
