Pope scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 4-2 lead, but Lassiter scoredthree runs in the bottom of the inning to beat the Hounds, 5-4, Thursday night at cold andwindy Lassiter High School. It was a high-level game between two talented baseball teams.Pope completes its season with a record of 14-6.Pope and Lassiter pitchers walked only one batter each. Tyler Urowsky started for the Hounds and pitched two scoreless innings. Urowsky struck out the side in the second inning with a nasty curve ball. Nate Levine pitched two innings and struck out three. Dawson Jones pitched two scoreless innings and struck out two. In the bottom of the sixth, after the lead off batter singled, Jones picked off the runner from first base with a well-timed move.Levine tagged the runner out. Jones struck out the next two batters looking at curve balls to end the inning and keep the score tied, 2-2.The Hounds had six hits from six different players. Will Kuimjian had a double and two RBI. Urowsky had a single and one RBI. Cooper Orr, Jake Gastley, Calvin Koo and Jesse Walter each had a single and scored one run.In the top of the seventh, Gastley led off and hit an 0-2 pitch for a single to centerfield. Koo hit a two-strike sinking line drive to center field for a single. Kuimjian hit a sacrifice bunt back to the pitcher, who fielded the ball and looked at third base. The pitcher then threw to first base,but Kuimjian beat the throw and was safe to load the bases with no outs. Levine hit a first-pitch sacrifice fly to left field to score Gastley from third and give the Hounds the lead, 3-2.Koo advanced from second to third base on the play. Urowsky grounded out to the shortstop and scored Koo from third for what proved to be the Hounds final run. In the top of the second inning, Pope scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Walter led off with a first-pitch line drive single up the middle. Logan Castro pinch ran for Walter. Orr singled to left field. Gastley hit a two-strike high bouncer to the pitcher, who threw to third base, but Castro beat the throw and was safe to load the bases. With one out, Kuimjian slugged a line drive to right field in the sun and past the right fielder for a double and scored Castro and Orr.
