The 2019 Pope Fastpitch team has qualified for the State Finals tournament that will be held at the newly renovated South Commons softball complex in Columbus Georgia October 23 – 26th.  GHSA softball determines a state champion by having the final 8 teams in the state compete in a 3 day winner take all double elimination tournament for the state title.

For the Greyhounds, this is the 4th consecutive trip to the state finals tournament and 7th trip in the last 8 seasons.  Last season, the Hounds finished state runner up as well as runner up in 2012 to go along with their lone state championship in 2014.   The Hounds have finished 4th place in 2016 & 2013, and in 2017, the Hounds finished top 6.

The Greyhounds earned their 2019 state finals tournament berth by defeating the region 5 four seed Douglas county in round 1 and then in round two, the Hounds swept region 1 powerhouse Houston County.  The Greyhounds were aided by a strong offensive out pouring in the 4 games scoring a total of 49 runs while only allowing 1 run over the course of the playoffs games.  The Greyhounds take some momentum into Columbus riding the wave of a program record 19 game winning streak into the State finals tournament.

The Hounds will kick off the state finals with the opening ceremonies occurring at 10 AM at the stadium field at South Commons on Thursday and then the Hounds will partake in their 1st game action at 2PM on field 5 vs Apalachee High School.  The Hounds’ road through the tournament will be determined based on the results of each of their games.
