Congratulations to Pope High School senior cheerleader, Haley Palmer, who was awarded a $4300 scholarship by the Lutzie 43 Foundation. Haley was a part of an original group this year that met bi-monthly to study and discuss the Lutzie 43 Lessons to Legacy curriculum. This group of a dozen or so Pope student-athletes worked through discussing character traits to help them improve as individuals as well as leaders on the field/court and in the halls of Pope High School. Haley truly embraced this learning and exemplified many of these traits in her leadership in the Pope cheerleading program. She is definitely deserving of this scholarship. Haley will be attending Mississippi State University next fall.
Phillip Lutzenkirchen was a graduate of Lassiter High School and Auburn University, where he excelled on the football field for the Tigers. He was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Since his death, his father, Mike, has committed to helping teenagers create strong character as well as safe driving and riding habits. The Lutzie 43 Foundation has recently made a nationwide push to promote a new safe driving initiative called 43 to Distraction Free.
